Sometimes I like to get rid of something that I kind of want to keep (we're talking clothing here) because it helps me get rid if everything else that's anywhere under that item on the scale of keep - donate. If I allow myself to part with a "maybe plus" then I really can just throw out the "maybe minus" without thinking about it.

I'm curious - how long has it been since Mr Poppins has purchased a cd? Chris had a million cds and I thought - why keep any of them when you can back them up and have them on your i pod? right?

And what do you do when Lulu grows out of her clothes? I have been a.w.e.-some about getting rid of Tobys the second they dont fit him.

Now I'm wondering if that was a bad idea? What if I decide to have more babies?

I don't think Mr. Poppins has purchased a cd in ages. He spent a serious amount of time digitizing his library so he could get rid of the cds and now he gets a lot of music from questionable means but he doesn't pay for it anymore. Me, on the other hand, I'll buy music, maybe one or two cds a year, maybe less.

I usually get rid of Secret Lulu's stuff as soon as it doesn't fit. We've got some little friends who are right behind her in the size line. Every once in a while I put something in the keepsake box but my rule is that everything I have to keep has to fit in the one box so sometimes I take stuff out.

I will never have more babies.

My therapist told me yesterday "all this therapy and his crazy uncle bill is probably as right as it gets" - he said "Everybody's just trying to fit 10lbs in a 5lb bag."
So he told me, simply, you have to take something out of the bag to make it work.
And there you have it, I'll send you 150 bucks and a congratulations! card because, apparently you've got the secret to life figured out. Just take something out of the box so the new thing will fit. Hmmm. Wow.

Polly, I am SOO trying the timer trick. My messes get totally out of control, so I use what I call the "10 item" rule. I have to put away 10 items, but they can't be fresh mess(meaning anything I used today). They have to be pre-existing mess. So anything I come across and put away that was used that day doesn't count toward the total. But I always put it away anyway, because hey, I'm in cleaning mode. I'd get way more done in 10 minutes, though.
